Andrea Bear founded Bear in Mind Strategies, LLC in 2007, to help companies, institutions, organizations, and nonprofits tell their stories in new and different ways. Her company creates engaging, solutions-oriented videos for web, marketing, fundraising, training, recruitment, documentaries, tributes and events, legacies, product demos, project documentation, and much more.
Andrea has more than 30 years of experience in a wide variety of leadership positions – from executive management to operations and support in private and public sector organizations. She has served in executive positions in development and marketing at nonprofit museums (The Chrysler Museum of Art and The Mariners’ Museum), in business development and marketing at a technical services company, as general manager of a direct marketing firm, and as an assistant executive director at a public agency. Andrea began her career in television news. She was a founding producer at CNN in Atlanta and an executive producer for the ABC affiliate in Chicago, leading a team – including Oprah Winfrey – covering the 1985 famine crisis in Ethiopia.
Andrea earned her Bachelor degree from the University of Virginia and has a Master of Business Administration from the College of William and Mary. She has contributed chapters to business books on leadership and change management. She was recognized with a Women at Work Broadcast Award in 1982, and more recently, Inside Business selected her as a 2017 Women in Business Achievement Award honoree.
Andrea has served on a number of nonprofit boards in the Hampton Roads area, including the YWCA South Hampton Roads, where she served as Chair of the Board of Directors from 2015 – 2017 and co-chaired the 2018 Women of Distinction. She is a current member of the CIVIC Leadership Institute and Hampton Roads Pride, and a past Board Member of the Norfolk SPCA, Downtown Norfolk Council, and Ghent Business Association.
