Counseling Services

The journey from victim to survivor can be difficult to navigate on your own. The counselors at the YWCA South Hampton Roads are here to travel alongside you through the ups, downs, and challenges in the healing process. Wherever you find yourself along that journey—no matter if it is a recent trauma or something that occurred in the past—our counselors are ready to use their skill and expertise to create a safe and compassionate space for you to heal.

YWCA South Hampton Roads is dedicated to promoting healing and empowerment of survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking. The Counseling Center provides crisis short-term and long-term adult and children’s counseling to victims, significant others, and other friends/family members affected by the violence. Services focus on feelings surrounding victimization, safety planning, long-term effects, health concerns, building coping skills, building healthy relationships, trusting again and feeling in control. Services are provided on a flat fee schedule of $30.00 per session with the first 10 sessions being free.

Additionally, we offer a variety of free support groups for survivors of both domestic violence and sexual assault.

The counseling center at the YWCA  engages trauma-informed, evidenced-based practices to help each client move through crisis toward healing. Utilizing a variety of therapeutic interventions, we work with you to design a treatment plan that will work for your specific needs. Under the supervision of licensed counselors, our superbly-trained and compassionate pre-licensed counselors provide individual and group counseling for survivors of all genders and ages.

This program has really helped give me determination and the willpower to make me honestly feel that I can start my life over again and to be positive, not having to live in fear.
