Volunteer and Internship Opportunities
YWCA South Hampton Roads has been on the front lines of the biggest issues of the day for over 100 years, with our focus on eliminating racism and empowering women. As the largest domestic violence service provider in South Hampton Roads, we offer diverse volunteer, intern, and outreach opportunities within the community promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

Volunteer Opportunities
Non-Technical Volunteers:
Non-Technical volunteers with YWCA of South Hampton Roads are not required to go through specialized training prior to service and will not have client interaction.

Trained Volunteers:
After an initial interview, volunteers will attend our 6-hour Onboarding Training as well as our 24.5-hour Advanced Training series prior to service. Trained Volunteers are subject to background checks and have direct client interaction.

Trained Internship Participants:
YWCA South Hampton Roads offers internships to undergraduate and graduate students. Interns are subject to background checks and have direct client interaction. If you are interested in pursuing practicum or internship opportunities, please apply at least two months in advance of the semester start date, as our programs are highly competitive and fill quickly.

YWCA South Hampton Roads (YWCA SHR) is the oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization in the world. YWCA SHR is dedicated to the fullness of its mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

YWCA-SHR’s Marketing team is seeking a motivated individual with a passion for making a difference in the lives of Hampton Roads residents.
Our Marketing Intern will be assisting in advertising and promotional efforts within our organization. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to building social media campaigns, preparing promotional material, and creating proposals. You will collaborate with our team in all stages of campaigns. Your insightful contributions will help develop, expand and maintain our marketing channels.
Internships are unpaid but may be used for school credit (please contact your school in advance). This internship will help you acquire marketing skills and provide hands on knowledge of various marketing strategies. Applications are accepted for fall, spring and summer semesters.
Applicant qualifications should include:
Strong desire to learn, excellent communication skills, writing ability and computer skills a must.
Familiarity with marketing computer software and online applications (e.g., CRM tools, online analytics and Google AdWords) are a plus.
Must be available a minimum of 12 hours per week during the semester.
