Volunteer and Intern

Thank you for your interest in volunteering or interning with the YWCA of South Hampton Roads in our diverse efforts to eliminate racism, empower women and promote the peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

 

The YWCA of South Hampton Roads has 4 levels of volunteer involvement:

 

Level 1-Untrained Volunteers. Untrained volunteers with the YWCA of South Hampton Roads are not required to go through specialized training prior to service and will not have client interaction.

         -Meal Program

         -Maintenance and Grounds Beautification for Groups

     -Special Event Volunteers.  Please email volunteer@ywca-shr.org to be added to the Special Event Volunteers email list. 

   -Maintenance and Grounds Beautification for Individuals. For this opportunity, please submit a Volunteer application (Click here to view our computer friendly Volunteer and Intern Application or Click here to view our printable Volunteer and Intern Application) along with a resume to volunteer@ywca-shr.org. You will be asked to attend the 6-hour Onboarding Training only.

Level 2- Trained Volunteers. After an initial interview, volunteers will attend our 6-hour Onboarding Training as well as our 24.5-hour Advanced Training series prior to service.  Trained Volunteers are subject to background checks and have direct client interaction. Level 3- Trained Internship Participants. The YWCA of South Hampton Roads offers internships to undergraduate and graduate students.  Interns are subject to background checks and have direct client interaction. If you are interested in pursuing practicum or internship opportunities, please apply at least two months in advance of the semester start-date, as our programs are highly competitive and fill quickly.  To apply for the below opportunities, please submit an application (Click here to view our computer friendly Volunteer and Intern Application or Click here to view our printable Volunteer and Intern Application) along with a resume, 3 letters of reference from academic or professional sources, and an unofficial school transcript to volunteer@ywca-shr.org

Level 4- Upper Level Volunteers. Upper level volunteers are selected on a case by case basis and training requirements vary by placement.
