Our Mission:

The mission of the YWCA of SHR is to empower women and girls and to work to eliminate racism.

The YWCA of SHR operates five core programs designed to improve the quality of life for families in our community.

The Women in Crisis shelter serves women and their children who are rendered homeless after leaving a violent relationship. These victims of domestic violence receive supportive services to move them towards self sufficiency. Other domestic violence support services include a staffed
24-Hour Women’s Helpline, ongoing support groups for women and children, conducting court-mandated treatment groups for men who batter their partners and community education.

The Women in Recovery program helps homeless or abused women with substance abuse problems regain control and rebuild their lives.

The YWCA initiated a Women in Transition program offering a Life Management Skills Course, Life Enhancement and Career/Employment Services.

Response Sexual Assault Support Services is dedicated to providing support, counseling, and advocacy to adults and children victimized by sexual assault and to promoting zero tolerance of sexual violence.

Our five subsidized Child Care centers help address the issue of latchkey children by providing low cost services for working families.

The YWCA of SHR site was jointly developed by Samantha Boucek, Kimberlee Sellers, and Cynthia Forrester.
