Our Mission:
The mission of the YWCA of SHR is to empower
women and girls and to work to eliminate racism.
- The YWCA of SHR operates five
core programs designed to improve the quality of life for families
in our community.
-
-
- The Women
in Crisis shelter serves women and their children who
are rendered homeless after leaving a violent relationship. These
victims of domestic violence receive supportive services to move
them towards self sufficiency. Other domestic violence support
services include a staffed
- 24-Hour Womens Helpline,
ongoing support groups for women and children, conducting court-mandated
treatment groups for men who batter their partners and community
education.
- The Women
in Recovery program helps homeless or abused women with
substance abuse problems regain control and rebuild their lives.
-
-
- The YWCA initiated a Women in Transition program offering
a Life Management Skills Course, Life Enhancement and Career/Employment
Services.
-
-
- Response
Sexual Assault Support Services
is dedicated to providing support, counseling, and advocacy to
adults and children victimized by sexual assault and to promoting
zero tolerance of sexual violence.
-
-
- Our five subsidized Child
Care centers help address the issue of latchkey children
by providing low cost services for working families.
-
-
-
- The YWCA of SHR site was
jointly developed by Samantha Boucek, Kimberlee Sellers, and
Cynthia Forrester.
